What is power?

Power is the ability to have control over others and in some cases have their respect. For example the ability to walk is not a power. But something like being a king or president is surely a form of power. Power doesn't always have to be used for good causes. Often power is misused like in the case of terrorists. A excerpts from my blog relating to power:

An part of my Cambodian Genocide research:
"The total amount of civilians estimated to have been killed by Pol Pot's tyranny is more than 2 million." This is an example of a person having power. Pol Pot was the leader of the Khemer Rouge and had a lot of power. He decided to misuse it though, an example of power being used for a malicious cause. With his power he killed over 2 million civilians. In this situation he had control over others but surely not their respect!

A excerpt from "Forced Military"
"In my countries, India and USA both do not require military service although they both encourage it." This is an example of a country having power over you as a citizen. Some countries do force citizens to serve the militatry.This sort of power is controversial and there are different opoins on it. But still it is surely not a example of power being abused. More like a case of power being used to deny rights but for a good cause.

A excerpt from "The Scramble for Africa"
"I noticed that during the game we never thought of what Africans might want, we just got what we wanted. Just like that when imperialism occured in Africa no one cared what the Africans wanted." Here is another example of power being abused. The countries of Europe used there supireour tech and military to colonize Africa without consent from the Africans. Furthermore they abused this power even greaterly by making Africans work for them. This is a clear example of having control over others.

To sum it up, I believe that power is the ability to control other and some times earn their respect. Power is not neccasarily always used in the best ways and often is harmful and evil.

Three things that I learned from pp

After the three months of population project anyone gains new knowledge and skills.
The best one I learned was the skill of time management. Through out the project I learned that if you manage your time you have no trouble, but if you wait till the last moment you struggle. Another thing I learned was how a large population can a lot of things. Finally I learned how do deal with big projects which will help in High school.

Sameness vs. Equality

The meaning of sameness is people are the same physically. They can have the same face and same bodies. All people have the same job, the same work time, the same family. Sameness is close to impossible as if every one was same, then there would be no governing bady and as every one would have to do the same job, there could be no society But equality means that every one is considered equal in society. There is no discrimination and every one is treated in the same way. Equality is achievable even though it would be very hard unlike sameness which is impossible.

Child-Adult-Old

A child is an adult when he/she starts contributing to his society instead of depending on it. And by giving back to the society it does not mean just do reachout or join in a environment club in your school. That’s part of it but when you are a adult you do your duty independently. A child becomes an adult generally after graduating from university and starts doing a job. An adult means doing your duty in society properly and sincerely. When an adult becomes mental and physical aged and can no longer perform his/her duty they are considered old and aged. Old people are generally respected because they have done their duty.

At the moment I have done my Independent investigation, halfway done with my data analysis, and have to start my creative expression and research paper.

Friday-get a first draft by the end of the day.

Tech cartoon

The main visual elements are the kid and the parents .This picture is about the breach of technology usage between two generations. The older generation is not very tech orientated and prefers talking. While the younger kid represents the younger generation and prefers bogging over talking. This artist is a person who does not like technology very much, as he shows that people prefer to type over talk. He is showing that technology is stopping people from talking and families from interacting. This cartoon is ironic as generally technology has helped people to communicate but here it stop communication. The artist could have showed the kid with more technological devices like a laptops and cellphones.

Vonnegut; Wrong or Right?

Vonnegut is wrong in his saying . I do see his reasoning in the nuclear submarine, but the computer example is clearly wrong. I believe computers help the becoming. Its allowing us to do things we have never done before. Now we can do to new planets and extreme locations using computers. Using computer we are able to see the universe out there. We have made so many new discoveries with the help of computers. Back on earth we have computer to make work easier, to make construction more accurate. We can make artificial intelligence using computers and uncover Isaac Asimov’s positron brains. We can do amazing things using computer. They are clearly the invention of this century. As for the submarine, all though it destructive power is menacing, it is our defense. And weapons like the submarine are necessary to protect. And they are defensive not offensive weapons. And inventions like the computer, do not stop to becoming, but encourage the becoming.

Technology

Technology is anything that makes life easier, better, and safer.I feel satisfied at the usage of technology in our school. In our middle school we have 1 computer or laptop for every 2 people. Also our school has a lot of new programs installed to help make work easier. Besides computers they also have new water processing and energy producing plants.

Which country where you and what strategy did you use?

I was the USSR, one of the super power. our strategy was to get the best countries first at the cheapest price we could. But it turned out the U.S.A was better at bargaining then we were. also we devolved a new strategy further on in the game, which was to buy many nuclear missiles so we could destroy the other country

Who won?
The countries that got money but never fought. They were the real winners!

V.C

Here are three design tips that could be help:

-don't wear green on the recording; you will turn out invisible

-If you want to have any extra lights on during the recording, put them on while setting up the V- screen

The two best aspects are that it is raletively easy because V.C does every thing for you and it is fun. the worst aspects were that the computer would sometimes mess up and all your work would be lost. Also sometimes V.C mess up.

Movie vs. Book

The difference between the movie and book were plentiful. The first difference I spotted was that the beast of England song was changed. Then Old major was shoot by accident where as in the book he died in his sleep. There is no clover in the movie but Jessie does her part. In the book mollie left and joined another farm while in the movie she stayed.

Script

In 1978 the Vietnamese came and overthrow the Khmer Rouge. Then many of the Khmer rouge's warriors retreated into Thailand. The warriors were backed up by the U.S and England. In Thailand they were giving food and relief by the USA. The USA supported them because of there common hate of Vietnam . Vietnam tried to established a government and a economy but this was impossible as Pol Pot policies had any one educated or professional dead.By this time the Khmer rouge were recollecting and making there way back into Cambodia with the USA funding them. The Vietnamese army had at this point no other choice but to retreat. The USA was funding the Khmer Rouge and there own funder, Russia had quit. The last of Vietnam's troops left in 1989. In this small period of time in which Khmer Rouge had been overthrown and came back, 65,000 people had been killed. The total amount of civilians estimated to have been killed by Pol Pot's tyranny is more than 2 million. Soon Cambodia returned to it's old laws like the ability to own land or religion. Although the genocide had ended the terrors of it did not. In 1995 many mass graves were uncovered which were Pol Pot's killing fields!

Animal Farm: what character am I?

I would be more like the hens. My Reasons are: that when the hens were told that they would lose their eggs they rebelled, as they found this injust( pg. 51 animal farm) For them the whole point to getting rid of humans was that they could lay their eggs and hatch them. Just like the chickens i too would rebel against the slowly growing corruption of the pigs.

Forced Military

In my countries, India and USA both do not require military service although they both encourage it. If my country forced me join the army I would consider it injustice and a blow to my rights. I believe when it comes to risking lives every man and woman has the right to choose. I could not join the army as I just know it not what I want. But I still do admire those who decide to risk their own lives to defend there country. It takes a lot of bravery and discipline for that!

JOY TO THE WORLD. THE KING IS DEAD!!!

1.All Indian Rupees are now worthless. Only History dollars, issued by the Royal Mint, shall be used to pay Royal Taxes and Fees.

2.All classroom documents and technology, such as homework, journals and hand-outs must bear a Royal Stamp, which shall be purchased from King Coyle, for $10 History Dollars or they will not be considered legal and will not be allowed to be turned in.

3.King Coyle shall approve all books, newspapers, and pamphlets, for appropriate content. It shall be forbidden to bring reading material that is not approved by King Coyle in class.

4.The King shall appoint all public officials, including the Mayor and Sheriff, and all Judges for court cases, to insure their loyalty to King Coyle of M1.

5.There shall be a curfew in M1 of 8:25AM, and nobody is permitted to leave unless attending an activity approved by King Coyle.

6.All citizens of M1 shall attend the Church of King Coyle, Sundays, at 10:00 AM. in M1 of the Middle School. All other churches shall be closed.

7. No citizen of M1 is permitted to own a gun, rifle, or weapon of any kind.

8.Those who speak out against King Coyle or any of his policies shall be guilty of Treason and given 30 minutes of after school detention.

These were the rules we were shown a week ago. At first I thought it was all a joke but by the next day it turned out it was joke. King Coyle was sucking our history money away from everyday. He put taxes for wearing jeans, orthodontic gear, glasses, and even for turning in our assignment's. In the beginning I rebeled by not buying a paper. The on skyward the grade was a zero. I felt that king Coyle was tyranny, taking advantage on us weak students who had no power what so ever. It was injustice that we had to pay for what we wore. But a few people rebelled out of self determination and finally the king is dead. God bless M1

Where did the fourty third war take place?

My partner and I strongly believe that this war took place in El Salvador. One reason is because tortillas and beans is a typical Central American dish. Another reason is that El Salvador has been having political problems for the past 12 years. 43 wars is possible to happen in that time span. Most of El Salvador's population is Christian and in the book, whenever one used to die they put a cross. These are some reasons why my partner and I believe that this war took place in El Salvador.

As for the question why we thought the author did not mention the exact location of the book was because the issue of child soldiers is a issue of global level not just in central America. By not mention where it happened he makes you think it could have happened anywhere, and in real life it does happen or has happened almost everywhere.

The Declaration of Independence

When it becomes necessary to break away from a government you should explain why you do so. The reasons we are about to explain are obvious. All men have equal rights such as life, liberty and pursuit of happiness. The government made of the people does not respect these rights the common man must over throw the government. When government is so bad, it is the right and duty of the people to make a new one. This is exactly what has happened to us. The king has repeatedly offended us and that is why we seek to over throw him.

The king has harmed in many terrible ways. He has burned our villages and killed our people. He has taken our people and made them fight against us. The excused the British soldiers of all their crimes they have committed against us in fake trails. He has been giving us ridiculously high taxes without our consent. Thats called taxation without representation and its not fair.

We have tried to make peace with him in many ways but instead we were given worse abuse. we also warned them that a conflict could arise but they ignored. it.. We have all the rights to overthrow a corrupt ruler such as King George III. Therefore we the people of the united states proclaim ourselves independent from now on.

Join or die

The main visual elements are the segments of the snake’s body that have space between them. Also the Join or Die is a main visual element. The cartoon represents that the colonies are not united as one. The words tell you that either all the colonies join to fight the British or the die. I thought the shape of the snake is to represent that if all the colonies combine then they can be dangerous to Great Britain. The artist obviously supports the idea of all the colonies combining or else he would not write join or die. I think the artist could have made a more vicious snake to show that America could be more dangerous

I believe that the facts given this book are true.

All the facts in this book have a in text siltation of either real slaves, slave owners or trusted libraries like the library of the Congress. If the facts were not true then he would site real people.

Also in the end of the book their is full bibliography of all the sources.

Thirdly most of the sources are trustworthy like The Library of the congress.

A lot of the facts are correct because they appear in many other sites and books.
For example the part that in a ship transporting the slaves it was so crowded that they could'nt stand is true.

POwers of the wORLD

In the powers of the world game Ju and I were the Austro-Hungarian Empire. In the bigging we were very small and weak. But our main tactic was purchasing industries and colonies. So soon we had lots of economic points and then we got a big army by the end we had the second biggest army. But in the last war we lost all our armies and most of industries. In the end our empire was weak. But the experience of building the empire was still very fun. Although all are very important for a successful empire I think colonies and industries are important. With these you can make lots of money and then later buy armies. What did well buying our armies we got lots of them and we were very powerful. What we could have done better is to make more allies because at the end we only had one. We had one good alliance with G.B which we both stuck to the end.

I learned that building your own empire strong means making other ones weak. Or else they will crush you . Also a peace treaty means nothing when it comes to war. They are broken and bonded with the blink of an eye. Thirdly i learned that when you have a opportunity attack you should waste it. we did and that led to our loss

My old and new goals Q3

My main goal is still to improve my writing as their is still space for improvement their.

Also my grammar goal still remains as we have not consultated that yet in class.

If I were to think of a third goal it would to improve my teamwork ability. For the I.R display I got a partner who I didn't like very much. So I had some arguments with that person and in the end we got a bad grade.

The three goals above were the ones I made for Q2

The first goal I have not met much yet because my average grade for writing was bad. Also my research paper grade was bad.

The second goal remains because we have not attended to grammar at all in this quarter.

As for the teamwork I have got any partner I do not like in humanities. But in some other classes i have and I generally get along with them fine.
